Why do I do this work?
intuitively see - and, gently addressing the wounding we all carry inside. I am excited by the concept that we create our own reality and I believe because of this, we can heal ourselves first and foremost by becoming aware of our thoughts and patterns. When we change our thoughts, we change our experience. It may sound corny, but I've always wanted to help people. As a child, I liked to volunteer at the nursing home in town. I would sit with elderly patients - they were so wise and full of memories... some sweet, some sad. I understood their feelings of missing out on life. I intuitively see what goes on behind the story -- the stumbling blocks, the self doubt, and the hurt. I often see what specifically can work to help heal those areas in a person’s life. I say ‘can work’ because it takes a willingness to make change happen in our lives. Sometimes, an answer can hit us over the head and still we won't take it.
I have a medical background. I spent a lot of time in the medical field until I realized that medicine alone did not fully meet my longing to help people. My main complaint was that there was never enough time for me to really sit and listen to patients. After trying and (seemingly) failing to find a fulfilling career in medicine, I couldn't imagine how I would be able to bring my gift of healing into the world. I have since learned that those things we are meant to do in life - the things we keep focusing our mental energies on - have a way of finding us. This makes a great case for being careful to notice what you are thinking about! So often, we are complaining about circumstances in our lives yet we aren't aware that we are actually "putting it out there" to the Universe - like a request... then we wonder why life is handing us the experiences it does... sometimes over and over.
health. As she died, I witnessed a process going on inside her that snapped me into the reality that we only have this moment. We can’t know what will happen in the next one. I could not afford to waste precious moments wishing that she and I could have things be different. And, I really got it - there was no point in dwelling on the past. The past is over and there is only this moment here in the now. All those things I had said and done were over - I couldn't change what happened and I couldn't take it back - I had to learn how to be in the present reality and learn to forgive myself and get out of the past. The day my mother died, I prayed to God that my unique purpose in life would be revealed, and to let me express what I have to offer in the world. Soon I began to study with different healers, teachers, as well as put in my own share of time seeing various healers, counselors and therapists. It was as if one experience blended into the next one, an opportunity would pop up out of nowhere. You name it, I have tried it! Let me tell you, not all of those experiences were great. At times, I really had to laugh about it. Still, I learned something from each one, and I am fond of saying that sometimes the worst experience makes the best teacher! Where did I study? I studied Energy Medicine and Healing Science at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, which is a specialized college for the study of hands-on healing techniques with a strong focus on spiritual and psychological processes. I attended a three year program at the Center for Intentional Living, which is a learning community open to health care professionals and individuals interested in psychological and spiritual growth and personal transformation. I have studied Reiki, Healing Touch, Reflexology, Life Coaching, and traditional talk therapies. I am an ordained minister. I have studied the work and am a fan of Byron Katie, Wayne Dyer, Sonia Choquette, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Louise Hay, A Course in Miracles, and enjoy reading the writings of many world religions. How long have I been doing this work? I officially opened my healing practice in 2001. I love my calling. It is not a job, it is a passion. Each person I work with is a gift, and I am honored to witness their healing process. |
