In my former life, I spent some time working as a computer
consultant for my husband. He needed support in his start-up
computer consulting firm (the kind that is free), and I made the
perfect student. I loved all the technology - I was always tinkering
and coming up with better ways to do things. Helping to
streamline data for clients was really fun, and eventually I started
to make web sites. I loved working with clients who wanted to
uniquely express themselves in the business world.
Once I opened my healing practice, I began phase out of my
husband's office. When it came time to create a website for my
healing practice I made my own and then some friends in the
healing community asked me to help them create their own unique
websites.
As practitioners, we spend most of our professional time holding
clients, setting boundaries, and revealing very little about ourselves
personally. This can pose a problem when 'going public' on the
Internet. I noticed during this process of making websites that we
each struggled to find balance between letting ourselves be seen
without over-revealing ourselves. Similarly, there is the challenge
of connecting with potential clients over the Internet - how to
appear open and warm, caring, trustworthy and professional
without seeming corny, cutsie, or cold?
I see this challenge as my gift: I hold your hand, I help you leap,
and then assure that you land safely on the new Terra Firma.
